The playoff picture is starting to come into focus as the 2025 Utah high school football season pushes past the halfway mark. We’ve seen incredible upsets, major shakeups at the top, and some powerhouse teams solidify their status.
The biggest drama unfolded among the top three last week. Corner Canyon—after suffering a stunning defeat—roared back with a monster victory over what was No. 3 Skyridge. Meanwhile, the team that delivered the upset, No. 2 Lone Peak, couldn’t maintain the momentum, falling to a red-hot American Fork squad in another heart-stopper.
This Friday promises more fireworks with seven matchups featuring top-25 teams. Here is the definitive ranking of the top 25 teams in Utah heading into the eighth week of the season, compiled by the Massey Ratings.
Contents
1. Corner Canyon Chargers (6-1)
After being handed their first loss in as many seasons by Lone Peak, the Chargers corrected course in the most emphatic way possible. Their 49-14 win over Skyridge was a statement. Junior running back Jackson Carruth was unstoppable, needing just nine carries to punch in four touchdowns. Senior four-star QB and Texas A&M commit Helaman Casuga delivered through the air with 301 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. The Chargers’ path to a 9-1 regular season includes major tests against American Fork and Lehi.
2. Lone Peak Knights (5-2)
The Knights secured a national headline-making upset one week, only to immediately stumble the next. A valiant fourth-quarter comeback against No. 4 American Fork fell short in a tough 31-28 loss. Despite a 306-yard effort from junior QB Cruz Christensen, the Knights’ defense struggled early. Now 5-2, Lone Peak must quickly regroup for another colossal Region 3 clash—this time on the road against No. 3 Skyridge.
3. Skyridge Falcons (5-2)
It was a bruising week for the Falcons, who couldn’t slow down the Corner Canyon juggernaut, giving up over 450 yards in a 49-14 defeat. The offense used a two-QB rotation, with senior starter Kaneal Sweetwyne and sophomore Jagger Fountaine combining for over 260 yards but also three costly interceptions. The team now faces another “monumental battle” at home against a wounded, but dangerous, No. 2 Lone Peak.
4. American Fork Cavemen (6-1)
The Cavemen didn’t just lick their wounds after an earlier loss to Davis—they came back and delivered a stunning 31-28 victory over No. 2 Lone Peak. Senior QB Kapono Manuela was efficient with 231 passing yards and a touchdown, while running back Prince Afu hammered in two scores. American Fork faces a brutal finish to the regular season: No. 8 Lehi this week, followed by No. 1 Corner Canyon and No. 3 Skyridge.
5. Davis Darts (6-1)
Quarterback Tradon Bessinger, a Boise State commit, had a record-breaking night in a 54-22 thrashing of No. 12 Syracuse. Bessinger completed 32 of 41 attempts for a whopping 504 yards—a school record—tossing five touchdowns and a pick. Bessinger looks like a top Mountain West prospect and is the engine that will drive the Darts deep into the postseason. Next up, a trip to No. 17 Farmington.
