Catholic of Baton Rouge has assumed the top spot in the MaxPreps Top 25 high school baseball rankings.

Catholic (Baton Rouge, La.) has taken over the No. 1 spot in the MaxPreps Top 25 high school baseball rankings after Corona (Calif.) lost a non-league game to La Mirada (Calif.). Catholic enters the Select Division 1 playoffs in Louisiana as the top seed with 14 straight wins. This season has seen multiple teams hold the No. 1 spot, with few maintaining spotless records like last year. Despite a loss, Corona only dropped to No. 2 in the Division 1 rankings by the Southern Section. La Mirada is a top-ranked school with freshman Luke Armijo pitching, ranked as the No. 7 lefthander in the nation for the Class of 2027 by Perfect Game. Meanwhile, Corona did not have their top three pitchers throwing after playing three league games earlier in the week. There was only minor movement in the rankings, with Calvary Christian and Hamilton both suffering multiple losses and dropping out, while Granada and Serra moved in as newcomers.

This week’s standout game was between Stoneman Douglas and North Broward Prep, with Stoneman Douglas pulling off a 6-5 win to bounce back from a recent string of losses. In another exciting matchup to watch, undefeated Lincoln-Way West will face a tough opponent in Downers Grove North, assuming they can get past Homewood-Flossmoor earlier in the week.

Bryce Rainer of Harvard-Westlake in Studio City, California has been named Player of the Week. The senior infielder had an outstanding week, going 8-for-12 with eight runs scored, six RBI, two doubles, and two home runs. In addition, he pitched two innings and struck out five batters. Eaton (Colo.) has increased its season record to 13-0 and currently holds the nation’s longest active streak with 54 consecutive wins.

1. Catholic (Baton Rouge, La.)
The Catholic High School baseball team in Baton Rouge, Louisiana has an impressive record of 32-2 and is currently ranked second. Last week, they defeated Central High School with a score of 7-0. Jack Ruckert was named hitter of the week after hitting a home run and driving in two runs. Trip Dobson was named pitcher of the week for pitching five no-hit innings against Central and striking out four batters. Their next game will be on Tuesday against Pineville.

2. Corona (Calif.)
The Corona (Calif.) team has a record of 22-3 and was ranked 1st last week. They recently defeated Centennial with scores of 7-2, 7-3, and 2-0, but unfortunately, they lost to La Mirada with a score of 2-0. Sam Burgess was recognized as hitter of the week for his home run and two RBI in a 7-2 win, and Ethan Schiefelbein was named pitcher of the week for throwing a seven-inning shutout with four strikeouts in a 2-0 win. Their next game will be against Roosevelt (Eastvale) on Monday.

3. Jackson Prep (Jackson, Miss.)
Jackson Prep, located in Jackson, Mississippi, currently holds a record of 32-2 and is ranked third in the last week. In their recent games, they defeated Presbyterian Christian with scores of 7-3, 7-2, and 7-6. Kevin Roberts was named hitter of the week after going 2-for-2 with a home run, three runs scored, and two RBI in a 7-2 win. Pitcher of the week, Gardner Young, pitched six innings, giving up two runs with six strikeouts in the same 7-2 win. Their next game is scheduled for Monday against Jackson Academy.

4. Flower Mound (Texas)
The Flower Mound (Texas) team has a record of 28-3 and is currently ranked 4th. In their last games, they defeated Plano East with scores of 3-1 and 14-0. 6. Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.)
Orange Lutheran High School in Orange, California has a record of 20-5 and was ranked 9th last week. They recently defeated Mater Dei in three games with scores of 7-2, 5-0, and 3-1. Josiah Hartshorn was named hitter of the week for going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in a 3-1 win, while Colt Peterson was named pitcher of the week for throwing six innings of shutout ball in a 5-0 win, striking out four. Anthony Massa had an outstanding week at the plate, going 7-for-16 with eight RBI, while Adam Gerl pitched a shutout game, giving up just three hits with four strikeouts. 23. Grapevine (Texas)
The Grapevine (Texas) team has a record of 26-3 and is ranked 21st. They lost to Argyle 5-1 but defeated them 11-1. Zack Goldstein was the standout hitter of the week with two hits and five RBIs in the 11-1 win. Dasan Hill pitched 6.1 innings and gave up one run on no hits with 10 strikeouts to secure the 11-1 win. Next, the team will play against Richland on Wednesday.

24. Granada (Livermore, Calif.)
Granada High School in Livermore, California had an impressive record of 19-1 last week. They defeated Foothill High School in Pleasanton with scores of 5-1 and 10-3. Mikey Boyd was named hitter of the week after going 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and a home run in the 10-3 win. Pitcher of the week, Jake Sekany, went 5.2 innings and gave up no runs on four hits with three strikeouts in the 5-1 win. Their next game is on Wednesday against Dublin High School.

25. Serra (San Mateo, Calif.)
Serra High School in San Mateo, California has a record of 17-3 and is currently unranked. They recently defeated Bellarmine College Prep 7-0 and Saint Francis (Mountain View) 22-7. Jake Downing was named hitter of the week after going 3-for-3 with a double and four RBI in the 22-7 win, while Sam Kretsch was named pitcher of the week for pitching seven innings, not allowing a run, and striking out eight in the 7-0 win.
